Female Cyclist’s Xmas Wishlist – Top 10 Items

On the weekend I got a call from my brother asking me for my Christmas wish list and it got me thinking about what items would make a female cyclist’s top wish list.

So here it is: Top 10 Items every female cyclist needs or wants for Christmas!

  1. Fun Rain Jacket

If you live in Vancouver you definitely already have a rain jacket.  I have four.  But I think every female cyclist should have a really fun rain jacket – one that makes them excited to see the rain – just so they can wear their cool coat.

2. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a necessity while riding, but they quickly get dirty with road grime or scratched by leaving them in your jersey pocket.  So it doesn’t hurt to have a few extra pairs of sun glasses and even clear glasses for rainy days.

3. Gloves

Generally any type of cycling gloves will be greatly appreciated but at this time of year, warm, water resistant gloves are especially beneficial when riding in your new fun rain jacket.  My newest pair of gloves are Gortex made by Gore Bike Wear.

4. Booties

Feet and especially women’s feet get extremely cold riding in the fall, winter and spring so booties are a much nicer alternative to plastic bags.  I have two pairs of booties, one for the spring made of light breathable material and one for the winter made of gortex.

5. Merino wool socks

Socks in general are always a good present but merino wool socks which keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter are great for cycling.  My favourite socks are my pink and black striped socks made by Rapha.

6. Recovery socks or calf sleeves

Compression socks have come a long way over the last few years and you can find fun colours and designs in both recovery socks or calf sleeves which will help her legs feel fresh and ready to go dancing over the holidays.

7. Cycling shorts/bibs

Just like jeans every woman has several pairs of cycling shorts or bibs but usually only one or maybe two favourites which get worn the most. If you want to buy a female rider something expensive that she will want to wear on every ride, buy her a pair of Asseos or Rapha cycling bibs or shorts.  This is true luxury!

8. A stocking full of bike tubes, gels, bars

What could be better than a stocking full of goodies that you can use all year long?  I would take a stocking full of gels over those chocolate bells any day.

9. Bike Tune up or winter clean

If she is wearing her cool rain jacket and warm winter gloves all winter she is going to need to have her bike cleaned which is a messy and time consuming job. So unless you are willing to clean her bike for her, the next best thing is to pay for someone else to do it.

10. Entry into a GranFondo Canada event for 2013

Warning. This gift is usually only appreciated if you have discussed it first.  But if she has already decided on a goal race or event for the following season, it is usually a great surprise to have it already paid for, waiting for her under the tree. Check out the RBC GranFondo Whistler has Gift Cards if you haven’t already.

  1. Hi Kristina,
I was wondering if you know how one can get their hands on the Lululemon-Specialized ladies kit? I checked lulu and specialized websites, but they must be for the team only? The jerseys are fabulous!

    • Hi Janelle,
I know that the Lululemon stores are all sold out and won’t be getting more until next summer but I did see that Dizzy Cycles on 4th had a few left in the fall. You might want to check them out.

  2. How about a skort for rides all over the place and when cycle touring in parts of the world, where it’s just better to blend in by wearing a skort? I felt that way in Europe. People don’t wear cycling jerseys and spandex when they go cycling around in town.
